You’ll also find that there are  more options in terms of program structure for the same reason.  For example, one online MBA program may offer an accelerated option, where students study full time, at an accelerated rate, with less downtime.  Getting enough students to commit to that on campus to pay for the faculty expenses alone would be impossible, but online it’s not an issue.
