Previously known as the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business, the AACSB was founded in 1916 to accredit business schools worldwide. The purpose of the association is to advance quality business management education worldwide through accreditation and thought leadership. The association is comprised of educational institutions, businesses, and other organizations devoted to the advancement of higher education in management education. Currently there are more than 1,100 members in 70 countries, with their first regional headquarters located in Singapore.
Created in 1988, the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) was founded to accredit business schools with an emphasis on research, teaching, and learning. They are based in Overland Park, Kansas, and fill a need for specialized accreditation by colleges and universities with business schools and programs.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was established in 1945, and was first an advisory body, which in 1987 was given statutory status by an Act of Parliament. The AICTE accredits graduate and postgraduate programs under certain categories at Indian institutions only. AICTE is responsible for proper planning and development of technical and management education in India.
The Association of MBAs was founded in 1967 by eight UK graduates from Harvard and Wharton School. The Association accredits postgraduate business programs at international business schools and differs from the AACSB in the fact that it accredits specific postgraduate business programs rather than entire universities. They have accredited over 160 MBA, DBA and MBM program at colleges and universities in 72 different countries.
The European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) was created in 1998 and specializes in the accreditation of higher education institutions of management and business administration. The organization has accredited 117 institutions in 34 countries.
The International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) was established in 1997 and is an accreditation agency for associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral-level degree programs in business and business-related fields at institutions throughout the world. It is based in Olathe, Kansas and has member institutions in more than 20 countries throughout the world. The IACBE is not recognized by U.S. education authorities as a higher education accreditor. The IACBE has been looking for recognition since 2003 and a recognition review is currently in progress.
