Why Get an MBA?

Many students feel that earning an bachelor’s degree in business administration (or even an associate’s degree in business administration for that matter) is sufficient for their current career path.

Why get an MBA? Why spend the extra time (not to mention the money) on the additional education? You have a career already, and you may even have a family to care for. When will there be time to get an MBA, even if you wanted one? Why get an MBA when you are happy where you are in your career?

Why Get an MBA

There are a number of reasons that the investment into an MBA degree can prove to be beneficial. Let’s take a look at the reasons why someone would be wary of earning an MBA:

Time: Sure, it’s easy to say that you don’t have time to earn your Masters in Business Administration. You have a family, children to take care of, not to mention your job. You simply do not have a flexible enough of schedule to attend night or weekend classes on a consistent basis. Plus, this could take years to complete. Do you really have years to spend on this?

Actually, many universities and colleges are now offering their MBA programs online. That way, working adults can earn their degree at the time, day, and location that best suits them. While there will be deadlines to meet for coursework and exams, you do your learning when and where you want to. Have 45 minutes and your laptop? Head to a local coffee shop and “attend class”. Not to mention that there are accelerated MBA programs that allow you to complete your courses in a matter of weeks, helping those college credits add up quicker than a traditional MBA program.

Money: The cost of a college education can be expensive, there is no doubt about it. However there are scholarship programs and student loans designed specifically for MBA students. If you are a working adult, you may want to inquire with your company about tuition reimbursement. Some larger corporations will even pay for you to go back to school to earn a master’s degree. It’s best to speak with your Human Resources or Benefits Administrator about what your company can do for you and your education.
